Has Digital media killed the art of Photography

Digital vs Film

I grew up learning the so called 'Old School' of photography, where if we wanted to have any custom printing done we had to either pay extremely high prices for a lab to do it or learn to do it myself.

Sure, the quality of photographic images of a commercial 4x5 or 8x10 camera still lead the pack in imagery, but in the last couple of years with Fuji's S5 and Nikon's D2x cameras it's getting pretty darn close.

Also creativity has just received a giant boost with Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended on the market. It has opened up the door to the imagination to produce images beyond the wildest dreams of the film industry. 3D graphics are becoming a common place item on web sites all over the world.

Adobe's Photoshop Elements 5.0 offers a very economical way for the masses to edit and share images with a lot of the 'bells and whistles' of the bigger Photoshop programs. I have been teaching Photoshop Elements for two years now and I am really amazed with what people are creating as they learn the tools of the program.

Is Film really dead?

Well, I feel it's not dead yet but the funeral home has its doors open and a room available to hold the wake.
